Calvary Baptist School

Last year Calvary Baptist School began a support program known as Builders in Excellence. Through this ongoing resource, friends of CBS are encouraged to pray, volunteer, and give financially to the needs of the school.

Prayer for CBS is our most vital need. We have seen families take the prayer list of our student and faculty body and consistently pray for the needs of the school. Also, this year a group known as Moms at Prayer has begun to meet weekly for prayer and encouraging support.

We are grateful for the volunteers who gave us time last year to help in many ways with BIE projects. What a blessing it is to see the talents God has given to so many of our people. It was encouraging to see them come together even on a last minute appeal when our lockers arrived unexpectedly the weekend before school began.

In addition to the prayer and volunteer commitments, we have received slightly over $22,000 in gifts and financial commitments to CBS so far this year. Our goal for the 2004-2005 school year is $53,000 (Last year we received over $59,000). We expect that money to cover the following:

elementary computer and French programs
advertising at a higher level than we could without the additional income
updating 10 computers per year so that we won't be put in a position of trying to upgrade them all at once
purchasing a few more lockers for next year
air conditioning four more classrooms
engaging our teachers in a teacher certification program that continues to reward them for continuing education and for maintaining their certification levels
working on a comprehensive security program at CBS.

For the security program, we are starting out with a guard in the building this year . The ultimate plan calls for renovating the elementary wing first so that offices, interior hallways, and more permanent security can be placed there. A visitor wouldn't have to go far into the building to meet with office personnel. With the times we live in, we need to limit strangers' access to certain parts of our building. To seriously meet that challenge, we anticipate that the renovation could proceed with approximately $200,000. BIE money received above the $53,000 could be transferred to the Building Fund. At present, the Building Fund has a little over $5,000 in it.
